Granite Paint
It can be said without doubt that granite is one of the most durable and long-lasting natural stone materials available in the market today. The durability makes it the ultimate material for use on counter tops, kitchen worktops, bathrooms, and shower enclosures. The long-lasting nature of granite also make it the perfect material for installation on floors and throughout the entire building. In fact granite has been used for many years by several industries across the globe as flooring, walls, and even roofs, thanks to the great resistance to wear and tear, and amazing luster it gives to the surroundings.
But when it comes to painting granite, most people prefer to do it on their own. The good news is that it is very easy to paint granite, and the techniques are not too complicated. You can get the job done professionally, if you want to but for those who want a do it yourself project, here are some simple tips. First of all, prepare all the material you will need, such as brush, nails, and primer if necessary. Make sure that your granite paint is properly prepped by mixing a certain amount of water with the paint and then putting it onto the granite with the use of a trowel.
The first thing you have to do is to putty the edges of the granite. You can either use regular putty or small pieces of decorative plasters, or scotch tape. You will have to make sure that the surface is smooth and clean before starting to paint. Next, putty the first layer of paint on the surface. Do this step carefully so that you don’t smudge the paint while continuing with the next step.

Painting the granite should not be your only task while carrying out the job. Make sure that the surface is also dry before you apply the decorative finish. When you are ready, you can start trimming and edging the granite paint to get a good shape and the color difference. You should work around the shower or tub area, as this is where most granite comes into contact with water. It’s best to make sure that the paint is completely dry when you’re finished with the trimming or edging.
If you don’t want to go too wet when cleaning the granite after painting, then you have to use water -in-water solution. This type of solution is composed of five parts water and two parts water -in-use. Before starting to apply the granite paint, stir the solution and add it to the water. Work with a brush to cover the entire granite surface, starting from the center and working outward. If there are any joints or cracks in the granite, cover them with the sealer before you even apply the granite paint and allow it to cure for at least 24 hours.
Cleaning granite is a time-consuming job, but this is one of those projects that you can do yourself without having to pay the professional prices for granite cleaners and granite paint. It’s definitely better to invest in granite paint because it lasts longer than regular paint, so you will be saving more on maintenance. Granite is beautiful and durable, but like anything else, it can be scratched, chipped, or damaged. Though you can always replace or repair it, granite paint can protect the granite just as well as regular coatings.
